1 Day class – March 10, Sunday

The Kansas City bluestar is a wildflower native to the Kansas City region, and shades from icy blue to deep blue to lavender. I was inspired by the image of a deep blue variety, and incorporated that color along with lighter blues, green for the foliage and yellow-orange for the stamens. The flower outline is screened on the canvas to make stitching easier, padded with cross stitches to raise the texture of the flower.

Teaching Objectives:

  • Work with two textures of silk threads
  • Explore the random placement of threads within a counted design
  • Use padding to enhance texture

Student Objectives:

  • Ease with random stitch placement
  • Techniques for starting and stopping threads for different stitches
  • Counting from a chart for border stitch elements

Level: Beginner to Intermediate
