2 Day Class, March 8-9-2025
Spangled features a classic star shape, divided into sections and stitched with several small patterns. The addition of sparkly organza above or below the stitching as the student chooses elevates this design into wearable art, finished into a Lee’s Needlearts self finishing leather pouch. Further embellishment of gold star hot-fix crystals further spangles this design!
Teaching Objectives:
- Develop an ease in stitching that emphasizes the rhythm of the stitch
- Explore different fiber textures in developing the project
- Experiment with the addition of fabric as a design element
Student Objectives:
- Confidence in working with various thread textures
- Techniques for starting and stopping threads
- Laying smooth stitches
- Personal choices in design development and embellishment
Design size: 92 x 84, about 5” x 4 3/4” on 18 ct. White mono canvas
Level: Basic-Intermediate
Kit contents: 11” x 11” white 18 ct. mono deluxe canvas with taped edges; DMC #8 pearl cotton and cotton flosses; Kreinik 1/8” ribbon and #4 braid; hot fix star crystals in 3 sizes; sparkly organza fabric in red, white and blue; chenille and tapestry needles
Students to supply 2 pairs 11” stretcher bars, tacks and or staples; scissors, laying tool; magnification and lighting if needed. Not necessary but helpful: a small metal straight edge ruler, ThreadZap or similar tool, hot fix crystal application tool (I will have these available in class to use but if students have their own it helps).
Stitches: Hungarian, diagonal mosaic, mosaic, brick, horizontal Milanese, eyelets, round Rhodes, Jessicas, cross stitches, upright cross stitches
